The Scottish Fisheries Museum invited all children in Fife aged 3 - 14 to take part in its annual Art Competition!

The theme of this year’s competition was Through the Lens, inspired by our ongoing FishNet project to digitise our photographic collection. This year’s competition was generously sponsored by Caroline Trotter Photography and the Scottish Seabird Centre.

The collection tells a rich history of the fishing communities of Fife from the 19th Century to the present. A display of historic photographs from the collection was curated and designed by our Digitisation Project Officer, highlighting how the landscape of Anstruther has changed over time. This exhibition, Snapshots of Memory, was on display in the Merchant’s Room of our WAVES Café in April.

We were inundated with entries from school pupils from all over Fife, and were impressed by everyone’s creativity and interpretations of the theme. After a long and difficult deliberation by the judging panel, which included local artist Iain Green, we finally decided on this year’s winners, which you can find below!

Entries were judged based on their artistry and how well their artwork complimented the competition’s theme. An overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize were awarded, as well as a Highly Commended prize for each age group.
