The Scottish Fisheries Museum invited all children in Fife aged 3 - 14 to take part in its annual Art Competition!

The theme of this year’s competition was Hidden Heritage: On Your Doorstep, which was inspired by our Spring temporary exhibition Buckhaven’s Hidden Harbour curated by P6 Pupils at Mountfleurie Primary School in Leven.

The Museum Curatorial Team supported the pupils to curate the exhibition about the history of Buckhaven Harbour. The exhibition was the pupil’s own words, the stories they found interesting, and their choice of objects. The exhibition title was ‘Buckhaven’s Hidden Harbour’ because this local landmark no longer exists. Anyone who looks around the area today would see little evidence that a fishing fleet of 198 boats used to moor there.

The Arts Society Fife generously sponsored this year’s School Art Competition. For this year’s Art Competition, pupils were invited to explore the hidden heritage of their doorstep and create artwork inspired by the history of their local area. An exhibition of the school artwork, Hidden History: On Your Doorstep, will be on display in the Merchant’s Room of our WAVES Café until 28th June 2024.
